Long Island Camry Hybrid Gets Siblings Toyota To Produce 1 Million Hybrids By 2011
The hybrids are coming! The hybrids are coming! At least by 2011, we are assured. Toyota is rolling out a plug-in Prius that is likely to make the competition green with envy and a Camry hybrid is also in the works for debut sometime next year. In fact, Toyota wants to be producing one million hybrid cars worldwide by 2011, probably double the number produced in 2009. If all the models on Toyota’s drawing board make it into production in the next few years their hybrid output will far more than double.
Among 10 new hybrid models Toyota has in the works is the FT-CH concept, which was unveiled recently at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. It would be a smaller, more affordable car similar to the Corolla. Long Island Camry hybrid buyers will be excited to know they should have less than a year to wait for their dream green car.
Looking over the concept model pictures on Toyota’s website, the company is definitely using the designers’ imaginations. These models look like everything from a moon buggy to a Jetson-mobile to a Pinewood Derby dragster. All seem very surreal and more so because at this point they all have letter and/or number names.
The interiors are funkier still. On one model, the swivel/reclining/make-into-a-chaise seats look like a cross between Theater Seats and Disney’s monorail. Definitely sleek and European. Another model boasts a steering wheel that is less wheel and more flat screen and joysticks. Long Island Toyota Rav4 dealers will no doubt be able to entice buyers to test drive these unusual models.
Another possibility, the PM, is a personal mobility vehicle and is touted to “fit like a glove”. Efficient, and green, but limited in it appeal for sure. This one may sell well as a “boy toy”, but is certainly not practical for the average family and its 2.4 kids. These models just have to be seen to be believed.
Long Island Toyota Yaris fans may not find the concepts so far out as those driving more “normal” or conservative models. But the hybrid capabilities of these vehicles will attract many who must save in today’s economy or who want to narrow their carbon footprint. Toyota’s vision of the hybrid future certainly has something for everyone. Of course, who knows what these features will actually translate to in production, but they certainly spark the imagination and transport you to your favorite sci-fi novel in their concept state.
Long Island Toyota Rav4 dealers will also want their customers to check out the new hybrid options which will likely range from subcompact to SUV.
We also don’t know yet when Toyota will begin building hybrids in the U.S. A plant equipped for Prius production was being constructed in Blue Springs, Mississippi, but is on hold for the time being. Long Island Toyota Yaris buyers will be even happier when the models are not only green, but produced in the U.S.A.
While we wait for the green future to arrive we can content ourselves with knowledge that our vehicle purchase choices can make a difference to our future.
